CHICO
Airborne Haus

Forty acres of grassland just north of Chico offered a blank slate for this rural compound. Our clients approached us with an initial brief for a modest home, which soon evolved to include the design for a new  shop & garage, plus a detached ADU. Their love of all things airborne: planes; birds and drones; served as our design inspiration for the soaring rooflines and viewing decks we created for all three structures.

We're delighted to be using EcoCocon prefab straw panels for all three buildings. We selected them not only for their minimal ecological  footprint, but surprisingly found them to be the most economical of the systems we explored during design development, including on-site stick framing.

The project is seeking PHI certification for the primary residence.
